More than 100 teachers and Non-teaching staff of St Mary's English Medium School enthusiastically participated in the Fit India Freedom Run program organized under the ambit of 'Fit India Movement-2020' of Central Government on 24th September 2020. The freedom run covered around 5 Kilometers of brisk walking, jogging and running in Kinnimulky-Kannarpady location. This health initiative aimed at refocusing the need of physical activities for achieving stress-free lifestyle and to do away with lifestyle diseases such as Obesity, Diabetes, hypertension etc.
Mr. Gerald Pinto, the physical Education Teacher during his introductory remarks spoke on the importance of sports and fitness in maintaining the physical, mental and spiritual health. The Fit India Freedom Run was flagged off by Vice Principal Mrs. Rita Quadros who motivated the participants by detailing the health benefits of sports, Yoga and Physical exercises. The program was conceptualized and convened under the guidance of Principal Rev Fr Johnson Sequiera who highlighted the need of activity filled work culture to enhance the level of efficiency and self-integrity. He appreciated the willingness shown by the staff members towards this nationwide health campaign especially during the pandemic situation. His concluding remarks included the pivotal need of carrying forward the spirit of Fit India movement for bettering the quality of life.
A large number of students from Higher Primary section have also joined hands with Fit India campaign by taking up 'Running Challenge' in their respective location. The cumulative records of their running and walking tasks have been collected through online platforms to track the quality of their committed involvement.
Physical Education Teacher Mrs. Renuka Acharya coordinated the program in collaboration with the collegues of her department Mr. Bhasker and Mrs. Amitha.
St Mary's family zealously upholds the spirit 'Fit India Movement' for the noble dream of Healthy India by widening the scope of health and physical activities in the school curriculum.
