Orientation Program on Study Habits and Goal Setting

An orientation program on Study Habits and Goal Setting was organised on Monday 26 August, 2024 for the students of Grades 7-12 in St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi at 9 a.m.

The sessions were held in JP Tauro Hall of the school for G9-12 students and Mother Theresa Hall for G8 and G7 by Dr Shivaprasad K, National Trainer JCI India and Dr Lydia Andrade, Associate Professor, Anatomy Department, KMC, Manipal respectively. The Orientation program began after seeking Almighty’s blessings through a prayer song by students’ choir and lighting the lamp. The Principal Rev. Fr Vijay J Dsouza in his introductory speech told that the purpose of having the sessions was to make realise the students that Education is much broader than classroom study. That’s why it is very important to be positive, support each other in classroom and the school premises. He also told that it is very important to set goals and to focus on achieving the goals to be successful. He stressed on the need to prepare well to achieve the impossible.

The speaker of the day Dr Shivaprasad K in his session focussed on Visualising the Success. He spoke about the features of a good student and why goal setting is needed in life. He also provided with goal setting guidelines by giving some examples from real life. He engaged students by giving some activities and made them understand that life is full of challenges, there are solutions for each problem which has to be found by the individuals. To achieve success one must have persistence, sacrificing nature, dedication, hard work and discipline and at the same time one must have confidence and self-motivation he told. Dr Lydia Andrade focussed on team work and collaboration in her session. She addressed on the need to develop the leadership qualities in this competitive world. She said, to be successful in life one must have effective communication skills, must understand the difference and respect everyone around. Celebrating small victories is very important to move forward and get motivated she opined. The speaker effectively communicated the purpose of the session to the students through various activities.

Over all the orientation program was informative and very effective. A few students shared their intakes from the sessions. Ms Anusha Shetty welcomed the gathering, Ms Jenica DAlmeida proposed the vote of thanks and Ms Anusha Kumari hosted the formal program. The program was well planned by Principal Rev. Fr Vijay J Dsouza and meticulously executed under the guidance of Vice Principal Ms Rita Quadros.
