A library is a passport to wonders and miracles, glimpses into other’s lives, religions and experiences. It opens our eyes and hearts to the world beyond our front doors.

August 12th is being celebrated as National Librarian’s day in India in remembrance of National professor of Library Science Dr S R Ranganathan who had spearheaded library development in India.

On 17th of August 2019 St Mary’s CBSE School too celebrated the Librarian’s day with great enthusiasm. The programme began with an action song by the students of class 1. It was followed by a small skit by the high school students on the importance of using the library for their academic excellence.

Then we stepped on to the formal programme. The school Librarian Mr Renold escorted the dignitaries on to the dais. Lisa of class 12th welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest of the day Dr Sudheendra Mohrar, professor & HOD of Physiology Dept, SDM College of Ayurvedha, Udyavara

Nicika of class 5 spoke about the joy of making use of the library and how they are helped by their librarian. Nihal of class 12 gave an insight and information about our school library.

There were various competitions held in accord of the librarian’s day. Many children won prizes for essay writing, chart making and speeches.

The chief guest of the day Dr Sudheendra Mohrar said in his address, “memory increases when one reads, mind will be focused and something read without distraction will be remembered. It is a source of entertainment and stress relief. He also mentioned that the librarian is good and equal to a teacher who has vast knowledge about all the books in the library.

The principal Rev Fr Johnson L Sequeira stressed on the skit performed by the high school students and mentioned that we should respect the library and follow its discipline. He thanked the librarian and all the teachers and students who have helped in putting up the librarian’s day. He presented a memento to the chief guest on behalf of the school.

The observation concluded with vote of thanks rendered by librarian Mr Renold. The programme was coordinated by Rushdha of class 9.
