The Valedictory ceremony of the St Mary’s Communicative English program

The valedictory ceremony of the St Mary’s Communicative English program was held on March 11, 2026, in the school auditorium. The program commenced at 8:45 with a prayer song led by the junior students’ choir, in the presence of the dignitaries; the president of the function, Principal – Rev Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza, chief guest – Mrs. Mariet Rodrigues, a celebrated retired teacher, Vice Principal – Ms Rita Quadros, and Communicative English coordinator – Ms Meghana Saldanha. The event was compered by Charitha and Ansh, students of grade 9, and Arunitha of grade 5 formally welcomed the gathering. The Communicative English classes throughout the year held activities for students to build healthy communication techniques and skills, and to mark the conclusion of the academic year, an extempore competition was organized as well. To showcase the energy and competitive environment of the extempore competition, Ms Helen and Ms Nayana, our Communicative English teachers, and the extempore finalists from high school, Archi and Achal presented a demonstration of a round of the competition to the audience which was comprised of students, parents, and teachers. This was followed by a portion where Sampreethi of grade 9, one of the extempore victors spoke about how she benefitted from the Communicative English classes and her experience of the competition. The following segment of the event included giving away of the awards to the extempore champions from grade 4 to 8. The winners were awarded with trophies, certificates, and well curated prizes.

The chief guest, Mrs. Mariet Rodrigues, a retired teacher from Milagres English Medium School, Udupi, was felicitated for her accomplishments and contribution to the field of education. This was followed by her address and the principal’s, where both speakers focused on the need to constantly work on healthy communication, and listening, speaking, and writing skills. They emphasized the importance of mastering the language and how that makes it easy for us to become adjustable globally.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mehek of grade 6, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, the Communicative English teachers who were in charge of organizing the valedictory program, the parents present for the event, staff, and students.
